Default When I go to correct a word or add a space it automatically delea.

I am having a hard time with microsoft word. Whenever I try to correct
something or add a space it automatically deleates what I had typed prior to
making the correction. How do I make it stop?

Sounds like you are on Overtype mode. Press the Insert key once to
change to Insert mode.
