Changing button appearance in Word 2007
By right clicking a button in Word 2003, you could change the button image
and/or decide if you wanted text or an icon. How is that done in Word 2007? I've created a couple macros and installed them in the button bar, but they both appear as the same default macro icon. |

By right clicking a button in Word 2003, you could change the button image and/or decide if you wanted text or an icon. How is that done in Word 2007? I've created a couple macros and installed them in the button bar, but they both appear as the same default macro icon. What you can do is more limited than in 2003, but... Word Options/Customize and choose the Macros category. Add your macros to the QAT. Click on a macro entry in the QAT. At this point, the "Modify" button under the list should become active. Click it and you can choose any of the icons listed. (But you can't modify them.) If you want to dig into RibbonX you'd have the option of loading a file from disk for your button. Thanks very much for taking the time to respond to my question. I did as you
suggested, and it worked. However, I still can't find a way to show the actual text of the name of the macro in the button bar, as opposed to an icon that I have to remember is associated with one of several macros. Do you know how to switch from displaying the icon, to text? Again, many thanks! I did as you suggested, and it worked. I'm afraid 2007 doesn't give you this option :-( I imagine the reasoning is that the QAT has a limited amount of room, and you'd only put a few tools on it. Well, that's the viewpoint of the people who designed this new interface and who think power users are a neglibeable minority sigh Your only other option would be to get into the guts of the Ribbon (the pschmid.net link). Or, if your macro skills are up to it, you can create your own "toolbar" in the Add-ins tab. Or, if you still have Word 2003 or earlier somewhere, create the toolbar in that, then open the document/template in Word 2007 - it will be in the Add-ins tab.
