Default removing text encoding features

When I am moving information from a file I converted to Word2007 from
WordPerfect into another Word2007 document, a heavy dotted horizontal line
appears. It also shows up when the file is printed. I worry that this line
will also move to a text I write on the basis of this latter file. It's also
just really irritating to see these lines throughout the document. Please
help me; I feel I've exhausted the options Word Help has offered.
