Default Word document tries to open in FrontPage, how to open in Word

Something happened so that my Word Documents *.doc all try to open in
FrontPage by first advising that some update for FrontPage is needed to open
the *.doc file in FrontPage. I don't want FrontPage! I want the .doc file to
open in Word. I went to Explore/options/Folder Options/extensions-file
types/doc/and set it to open with MS Word. Then when I tried to open a *.doc
file I got the message that the file could not be opened as it was not a true
32bit file. I Skyped the file to another computer where it opened Normally in
MS Word so the file is OK. I thought I should have been able to toggle
something to correct the problem. Finally I gave up and re-loaded
OfficeXP/Word and the files now open Normally. Please tell me what went wrong
and for the future if there is a correction short of relaoding the program.
Thanks for your replys
