PostNet Bar Codes in Word 2007
Does Word 2007 have the capability to create POSTNET ZIP+4 barcodes?
I understand the feature was left out in the beta version because POSTNET no longer qualifies for the bulk mailing discount, but according to my local postmaster use of a ZIP+4 barcode speeds processing and reduces the chance of delivery errors. |

No that feature was removed. The reason given was because the Post Office
changes the codes, and Microsoft did not want to apply obsolete bar codes to envelopes. -- Dawn Crosier Microsoft MVP "Education Lasts a Lifetime" This message was posted to a newsgroup, Please post replies and questions to the group so that others can learn as well. PostNet Bar Codes in Word 2007
Here's one way to insert zip codes in your documents: I used an AutoText
mergefield in Word 2000 that still works in Word 2007. The mergefield code is: { BARCODE \u "type zip code here" \* MERGEFORMAT }. I called it ZIPBARCODE. Whenever I want to use it, I type ZIP and then F3 to drop the code into my document/envelope. SHIFT+F9 opens the code and I replace "type zip code here" with the pertinent ZIPcode, then press SHIFT-F9 again to close the code. As I say, it still works in Word 2007. Note, however, that this is a BARCODE field, not a merge field. Saving a
made-up dummy field as an AutoText entry is helpful, however. -- Suzanne S. The commands are Insert/Field, then select the Barcode field. Go to the
window (Field Codes?... I'm working on 2007 now and don't remember what it's called in 2000) where you see the word "Barcode" sitting in the window and insert the following text after the word Barcode: \u "type zip code here" \* MERGEFORMAT (with a space before the \u and a space after the word MERGEFORMAT). Then click OK. You'll see a field in your document that says "Zip code not valid!" Click in front of/to the left of that field, hold down the Shift key and press F9 key. The field code will open so you can see that it says: "{ BARCODE \u "type zip code here" \* MERGEFORMAT }." Type the Zip Code you want in place of the words "type zip code here" (but leave the quotation marks), then press Shift+F9 again to close the field code. And voila! your zip code will be bar-coded in/on your document.
