Automatic date updates
I don't use Word all that much and this may be a basic question.
If there a way that I can insert a date in a Word document so that everytime it opens it will automatically show todays date rather than having to update the date manually. Excel has an =Today function that does this, and I wonder does Word have an equivalent command. I'm using Word 2000 |

Automatic date updates
Yes, you can, with the Date field. However, you would probably be better
served by creating a template with a CreateDate field in it. Then use that template as the basis for your new documents (File New). That way, the date in the new document will always be the date on which you create it. (When you reopen it two months later it will show the date you wrote it). Automatic date updates
Alt+Shift+D will insert a DATE field in the document in the format you have
selected as the default in the Insert | Date and Time dialog. This field, however, will update every time you open the document, which is probably not what you want. As others have suggested, a CreateDate field is more appropriate. See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/DateFields.htm -- Suzanne S.
