I produced a document containing some mathematical formulae using Microsoft

That depends. If you mean, "Can I select the fraction, then click
'B' on the Word toolbar to make the fraction bold", then no. It
can't be done.

OTOH, if you mean is there a way to use Equation Editor (EE)
settings to make the fraction bold, then yes. It can be done.
Here's how:

1. With EE open, click on Style Define.

2. In the Styles dialog, click the Bold box next to Variable,
Symbol, and Number. (Matrix-Vector should already be bold.) If
your fraction also includes functions (i.e., sin, log, etc.),
also check Function. If it includes lower-case or upper-case
Greek letters, check the box next to L.C. Greek and/or U.C.
Greek, respectively. Click OK.

3. If you also want to change the thickness of the fraction bar,
click Format Spacing. Scroll down until you see "Fraction bar
thickness". The default is 0.5 pt; I recommend 0.75 pt, but you
may prefer 1 pt. Click OK.

Here's the deal though -- these settings will be in effect for
your next equation, whether or not it's a fraction. If you don't
want the equation bold, you must manually change the settings
back each time. There is an easier way...

MathType is the professional version of Equation Editor (both are
Design Science products). With MathType, you can make the changes
above, then save the settings to a preference file. You can
switch between preference files with just a mouse click, and all
the settings are changed accordingly either for the equation
you're editing, or for subsequent equations (your choice). You
can get a free 30-day evaluation of MathType at the link in my

The equation editor that Microsoft licenses from MathType doesn't support any font formatting. You might need to purchase the full MathType application if you need this.
