Default My help text does show on my form....why?

I've created a form in word to use as a template. I typed in help text for

There should be a blank in the form field window for Display Text. Whatever
is typed there should show up in the form field as default text.

That's a different animal. You're referring to the "Default text" rather
than "Add Help Text..."?
