Word 2007 and Headers
My company has traditionally used Word Perfect but has recently purchased
Office 2007. We create our own letterhead in WP which we have been also able to do with Word. Our problem is that in WP you can discontinue a header so it doesn't appear on your second and consecutive pages. I have looked everywhere but cannot find a way to turn the header off after the first page. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Word 2007 and Headers
When you click in the header region, the Header & Footer Tools Design tab
should appear in the ribbon. One of the sections is called Options. One of those options is "Different First Page." I tried that prior to asking the question and what happens is this -
If I click in the header section on page 2 and put a check mark in the box beside different first page, my first page header disappears instead of page 2 header disappearing. |

Once you check that box, there is a new field created, called "First Page
Header" (and "First Page Footer"). So, what you already had in your header is still in the "Header" field. Just copy it over to the "First Page Header" on the first page. -- Douglas Ryan VanBenthuysen Office System Solutions Specialist 3Sharp http://blogs.3sharp.com/Blog/dougv/ "Pat Richards" wrote: I tried that prior to asking the question and what happens is this - If I click in the header section on page 2 and put a check mark in the box beside different first page, my first page header disappears instead of page 2 header disappearing. |

Does this not seem a little cumbersome?? It's not a matter of just copying
over the header information to make my first page correct, I then have to copy everything that is included in a sidebar text box. Perhaps we should stay with WP for its simplicity! No, you have to set the letterhead up this way from the get-go; see
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/Letterhead.htm. Now that you know about the "Different first page" option, you select that option before going to the trouble of creating the letterhead, and you do it in the First Page Header. -- Suzanne S. No, it does not sound cumbersome to me. Once you figure out the
functionality, it is rather easy. And, if you ever need to programmatically access the header fields, the way they are handled with Word 2007 is very convenient (the headers are stored as XML files compressed in the document). How cumbersome the program is depends on what you already know and what you are trying to do. But it doesn't matter to me what program you use, so good luck either way!
