Hello

I am trying to create a 'poster' which combines some free clip art (from
the web) and quite a lot of text (writen by me) mixed & mingled together. I
hope to have text superimposed over some parts of the clip art. For example,
I have a clipart of a man holding a poster & I want to insert text into the
poster.

I'm not clear what it will look like when finished, but I need to know how
to start ?

Should I use MS Word, and just insert pictures in & around the text.? Or
should I start with a paint program and add the text, or what ?

I am a bit confused on this & hope you can help. I need to know the best
program to use.

How large will the poster be? Publisher is far superior in creating posters,
banners and other large publications.

Although this can be done in Word, it will probably be easier in Publisher
if you have that. In Word, however, how you deal with the text and pictures
will depend to some extent on the ratio between the two. If you have mostly
pictures, make them inline and the text "floating"; if you have mostly text,
make it inline and wrapped around the pictures.

For the former, insert the pictures and place them as you would text, using
paragraph alignment settings. Then insert a text box with No Line and No
Fill and In Front of Text wrapping over the area where you want the text and
type the text in it.

For the latter, type the text, insert the pictures, and change their
wrapping to Square or Tight. You'll still need text boxes (In Front of Text)
to superimpose text on the graphics, but in this case you'll need to use the
Order command to place the text box in front of the graphic (though it
should be there by default if inserted after the graphic).

The poster will be just A4, perhaps blown up to A3, but no bigger.

If the sign the man is holding is at an angle then Publisher would be a better
choice. You could use WordArt in Word, you can angle WordArt.
