Default backup copy could be saved in a user specified folder

There could have an opton to allow the user to select a specifi older used
for backup copies...

This is not possible because of the way the "backup" is created.

Why not?

Saving files can be made to any folder, not only the folder were the
original file resides!

Besides it is a copy, not another versin of the original file...

It depends on what "backup" you're talking about. A backup that you create
manually can be saved anywhere. The "Backup of filename.wbk" file that
Word creates when you enable "Always create backup copy" must be in the
document folder for the reasons stated in €śDescription of how Word creates
temporary files€ť
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=211632. It has also been mentioned that
you may well have several documents with the same name in different folders;
if all the backups were saved in the same (backup) folder, there would be
conflicts.
