Default Margin - I think

I am creating a stationary template.

I have placed my logo at the top left corner of document.

How do I now set the top margin so that any text typed will be below the
logo each time at the same location?

thanks.

You need to place the logo in the header area.

As Rae says, the logo should be part of the header. See

how, then, do I get the header in the left hand corner and the body of the
text further to the right, say 1.5" in?

The header is assumed to be at the top of the page, and any text that is at
the top of the page is assumed to be part of the header. As for text further
down (below a normal top margin), if your logo is large enough to extend
into that area and has Square or Tight wrapping, text will wrap around it.

Set the text wrapping on the logo as square or tight and you can position it
where you want. Set the top and left margins where you want to start typing.
