Yes, my computer came with a telephone modem installed, perhaps two:
a Conexant D850 56K V.90 DFVc PCI modem and
a "Standard Microsoft Modem"
All of their drivers are up to date and they are "enabled" devices.

There is no fax software in Vista Home Premium (or Word 2007). You will need
either to upgrade your operating system to a version of Vista that has or
acquire third party fax software compatible with Vista.

Thanks! That makes a lot of sense.
You see, I was frustrated because I knew I had Microsoft Fax Software on my
computer at work (Vista Business). I thought I had it here at home but
somehow lost track of it. Of course I never really did!
It was just one of those little things that was bothering me. Now you've
answered the question.
