Default ms word 2003 - how to stop the cursor from randomly jumping

when i try to type, the cursor moves to a completely different part of the
page. for example, if i've already type 3 paragraphs and am working on the
4th paragraph, while typing, the cursor will suddenly jump to a previous
paragraph. how do i fix this? any ideas?

Are you working on a laptop? Accidentally touching the touchpad is usually
the reason for this.
