How do I open a PDF in word 2007
Hi
I would like to open a PDF in Word 2007, with formating and tables kept intact. Does Microsoft support this? A (free) third party tool? Thanks |

You open a .pdf with Adobe's Reader (or other software). If you need to edit
that file, it's better/easier to ask the file's originator. Please note I didn't even mention the possible copyright violation. -- JoAnn Paules MVP Microsoft [Publisher] ~~~~~ How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/KB/555375 "Tom" wrote in message ... I would like to copy some text and tables from a US Government document that
is not copyrighted and in only available in a PDF format. I would then like to move some of the columns in the tables. Thanks "Tom" wrote: Hi I would like to open a PDF in Word 2007, with formating and tables kept intact. Does Microsoft support this? A (free) third party tool? Thanks |

If it's in writing, it has a copyright.

If you don't have the free Adobe Reader -- which would make you one of maybe
three people in the world who don't :-) -- get it from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html. Open the PDF in the reader. Click the Select tool on the toolbar, and select and copy the material you want. Paste it into Word, and you should be able to edit it as you like. Although some PDF files don't allow copying this way, most will. I wouldn't think a Government publication would be protected. If you do have trouble copying and pasting, and if you have a relatively modern OCR/scanner program, you can see whether that program will "read" the PDF file and produce editable text. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. U.S.C. § 105 withholds copyrighted status from any work of the United States
Government, defined in 17 U.S.C. § 101 as "a work prepared by an officer or employee of the United States Government as part of that person's official duties." Any such work is therefore in the public domain. Fine. You go and edit it and use it for your own use. I'll refrain from
pushing my luck. -- JoAnn Paules Microsoft MVP - Publisher "Tom" wrote in message ...
