My Monitor seemed to be dead what would I do? I'm mystified by your choice of a Word newsgroup to ask this question, but here are some first steps to try... First, be sure about which part of the computer isn't working. Is the box with the power supply, processor, drives etc. working? Do you see the LED lights and hear the fan and drive spin? If not: - check that it's plugged into the mains. - check that there's power at that outlet (plug in a lamp to find out). If the outlet is OK but you don't get any lights or motion, you may need to replace the power supply. If the processor box seems to be running but there's nothing on the monitor screen: - is the monitor plugged in, and does that outlet have power? - is the cable between the processor and the monitor securely attached at both ends? - are the brightness and contrast controls adjusted properly? If you still haven't found the cause, try to find someone who will let you swap your monitor onto their processor and vice versa. If one or the other doesn't display anything, you then know whether your monitor is working. If the processor box appears to be running and the monitor works on another system, try replacing the video card. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org |
