Default Document is truncated to only one page

I start a New document and start to type. I can't go past the first page,
even though I keep filling the document with lines. When I do
Tools/Wordcount, it shows a document of 1 page although it may have 100 or
more lines.

I can solve the problem clumsily like this:
SAVE AS mydoc.RTF
Exit
Open WordPad and open the RTF. Edit it.
Close WordPad, go back to Word, and open the RTF.
This gives me the entire document.

I suspect the problem has something to do with NORMAL.DOT.

In a problem document, go to Format | Columns, make sure that "Whole
document" is selected by "Apply to," and click the One box (even if it
appears to be selected already). If this solves the problem in one document,
make the change in Normal.dot as described at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/...ocNotBlank.htm

Try this: Open Normal.dot directly (use the File Open dialog and
navigate to the Templates folder). Go to Format Columns and select
"One", even if it's already selected. Click OK. Insert a space and
then delete it (that "dirties" the template so Word realizes it has to
save it). Save and close. Now try making a new blank document.

If that doesn't help, rename Normal.dot and restart Word to make a new
one, as described at
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErr...ocNotBlank.htm.
