Shading vs. Highlighting
In Word 07, what is the difference between 'shading' and 'highlighting'?
I know one can use 'Find' for highlighting and 'shading' has many more color options, but is there more to it than that? David |

David Yes, there's more to it. The biggest difference is that shading can be made part of a style, while highlighting can't. Other differences: - Through the Borders & Shading dialog, you can specify whether the shading applies to the selected piece of text, the whole paragraph containing the selection, or (if the selection is in a table) a cell or the whole table. Highlighting applies only to the selected text or text you drag across while the highlighter is active. - Besides color, shading can include patterns (cross-hatching, diagonal lines, etc.). - If you're programming a macro, the two features are handled completely differently. Generally, although both can serve the same purpose of emphasizing particular parts of the document, shading is intended more as a decorative feature. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. |
