Default ??? What's the point to Word 2003?

Good lord -- can't we ever get to a point where we can leave well
enough alone? What is the point to Word XP, and now Word 2003? Word
2000 works just fine.

As far as I can tell, these newer versions just have more garbage you
have to turn off in order to keep Word working for you, not against
you.

Rant.

You're going to be surprised in less than a year!

No need for surprise. The new UI has been extensively documented in Jensen
Harris's blog (http://blogs.msdn.com/jensenh/). Other links at

Word 2002 and 2003 offer a few useful upgrades for some specific tasks,
including the (somewhat flawed) "Book fold" feature to produce booklets. The
new Track Changes design (poorly implemented in Word 2002, but much improved
in Word 2003), though many users don't like it, was a response to input from
publishers who want to be able to track changes without affecting complex
page layout. IRM and XML in Word 2003 are very important to large corporate
users. For more, see

You'll often find me on your side of the argument. Not this time.

The big news is XML.

Do a bit of googling around the net and read some good introductory
material on XML, otherwise you risk being seen as sadly out of date
and behind the times at work :-) Of course, this will only matter on
payday, but on payday it will really matter!!

Cheers
