Default Why is it appearing a sign where I define a field code?

Hi, I extensively use field codes in my Word documents. Today I opened one of
my documents and found that in every place I defined a field code, now
appears a grey "I". Does anyone knows what is going on? I'm using Word 2003
and have installed Office Service Pack 3 and several other updates.

The "I" appears when defining a field, like in { SET Name "Carlos Mallen" }

It sounds as if you have checked Tools-Options-View-Bookmarks. Try
unchecking it.
