Is there a way to truncate data in a mergefield so that it only returns a
specified number of characters?
Thanks,

Hi ?B?UGF1bGEgSmVybg==?=,

Is there a way to truncate data in a mergefield so that it only returns a
specified number of characters?

No, there is not. You need to do this in the data source.
