Index: How to replace middle #s in a continous run with hyphen (#
I posted the question below, earlier, and got a quick and correct response,
but realize I hadn't specified that I'd build the Index with a concordance file, so the index was built automatically. I realize I can do a Find search, and manually remove all the marks, which sent a word to the index, but in the case of this document, this is an extremely tedious process. What I have indexed is the manual for a software product, and it's likely to change and be repaginated regularly, so I don't want to simply edit and put my own hyphens in the index, guessing that would mess up things whenever I update the index with F9. Here's the original question: Have created index, in which some entries are marked as appearing on many pages in a row. Yet, index lists every single number, not hyphenating for a run of numbers. In the samples, on the Index creating windows, under Print Preview, it shows that Word will do this. It doesn't on the screen, and it doesn't when you print it out. |
