Default commenting on footnotes

i find that i can delete items from or insert material into footnotes ---
but i can't find a way to comment on them --- is there a way to do this

Default commenting on footnotes

No, Word won't let you insert comments in the footnote (or endnote)
area. You will have to type your comment directly within the footnote
text, or use a text box (that is anchored to, say, the paragraph
where the footnote was inserted).
