Default Table of contents puts headings on two lines

My document has Chapter titles that look like this

Chapter 3
Natural Selection

I need to put both lines in the TOC on only one line though. Is it possible
to do that so that it looks like this:

Chapter 3 Natural Selection........................10

Default

If you use a line break (Shift+Enter) instead of a paragraph break at the
end of the first line, it will be converted to a space in the TOC entry.
