The number of page function should not include pages that contain a section
break (next page) otherwise when you get to your last page and it reads page
158 of 165 one would think they are missing 7 pages, not realizing that the
page count includes the first 7 pages which is the Table of Contents. HOw do
I fix this?

Go in header/footer, unlink the footer from the previous one if necessary,
alt-F9 to toggle field codes, edit the field code from { NumPages} to
{SectionPages}

Then you'll need to use a calculated field: { = { NUMPAGES } - 7 }.
