Default Section Name in Footer

Hello guys:

I have a style based on "heading 1." This style is working OK, and I have
built a TOC using it. Everything looks fine.
I want to make a footer using those section titles, but when I look for them
in Insert Cross-reference (Reference Type: Heading // Heading Text), I do
not find them. So, the question is: How can I place the section name in the
footer, in a way that secion name changes according to the section the
footer is in? Or at least, how can I place section name, even if I have to
do it for every section?

BTW - I am using Word 2000

Any help is welcome.

Thanks,

P.

Pauba,

Look up the STYLEREF field in Word Help. You should find your answer
there.

Hello Greg:

The problem with STYLEREF is that I can place the name of the section IF
the name of the section is in the same page of the footer. If the section
has more than one page, the name will not appear in the folowing footers...
or am I missing something?

Thanks,

Nelson

You can use the STYLEREF field for this purpose: With the cursor in
the footer, press CTRL+F9, which causes Word to insert field
delimiters {}. Inside those delimiters, type

STYLEREF "name of your style here"

and then press F9.

Use a styleref field in the footer to call the style used for the headings.

The footer should repeat the text referenced by the STYLEREF field
until a new paragraph using the style occurs. Of course, this means
that it is cruical that you don't have any empty paragraphs using the
style, because these might cause the field to display blank on some
pages (depending on their positions relative to non-empty paragraphs
using the style).

Aha!

It seems I was using STYLEREF with a wrong switch (\l) -- now, without
the switch, it is working.

Thank you very much,

P.
