Default Character count in Word 2007 status bar?

In Word 2007 you have a word count in the status bar. Is it possible to
change this to a character count instead?

When I write articles, the length of the article is determined by the
character count. If I double click on the word count I can see the character
count, but it would be very nice to see the character count directly in the
status bar. Is it possible?

Thanks in advance

You can only add to the status bar what's included in the Customize Status
Bar menu (right-click status bar).

To improve access to the character counts (by default, Review tab, Proofing
group, Word count), add the Word Count command to the Quick Access Toolbar.

Office Button, Office menu, Word Options, Word Options dialog box,
Customize, under Choose commands from, select Review tab, scroll down the
list and select Word count, Add, OK

Then just click Word Count on the QAT to get the results

Perhaps I'm not following something but wouldn't the result of adding Word
Count to the QAT be the same as clicking the Word Count command in the
status bar?

Also, if the command you want to add is already on the Ribbon all you need
to do is right-click the command and then click Add to Quick Access Toolbar.
IOW, navigate to the Review tab and right-click the Word Count command. :-)

I agree on the 2nd point; I just wanted to lead the user to Customize in Word
Options dialog box, which I've found to be an extraordinarily useful resource.

On 1st point, you're exactly right. There is certainly no benefit to what I
suggested. Thanks.
