Default How do I fix the drop down windows in Word stay in alpha order?

I have had several problems since my hard drive was replaced. I have two
that are currently the worst because of the frequent use: one is in Outlook
and one is in Word. I'll separate out into two separate questions. This is
the first question: in Word when I go to open a document the window opens
the list in descending (z-a) alphabetical order, which is NOT how I had it.
In a special reports folder: 1) it had been going: 123456 - Smith, 123456-1,
123456-2, etc. 2) Now it's going: 123456-1, 123456-2, 123456 - Smith. 3)
If I right click and arrange icons by name the list then goes: 123456 -
Smith, 123456-2, 123456-1. Also, when I do right click and arrange icons
when looking in a specific folder it messes up the main list. (I have a
folder for letters, a folder for forms, a folder for reports, a folder for
miscellaneous, etc.) Is this a fix that needs to be done by the IT
department?

In an A-Z sort, numbers will sort ahead of letters because that's the order
of their ASCII code. In the example you give, however, 123456 - Smith will
sort ahead of the numbers because the defining sort character is a space,
which sorts ahead of the numbers. In the File Open window, select the
Details view and click on the Name header to reverse the sort from Z-A to
A-Z.

It did not work. Is it because I now have Windows XP? They also upgraded my
Word 2000 to Word 2002 SP3.

Default How do I fix the drop down windows in Word stay in alpha order

This is my second question, a two parter. I'm not sure whether this would be
a Microsoft problem or if my company's IT department would need to fix: We
have separate drives (R, U, Z) that are set up for the different departments
within the company. I deal with one drive which is called Claims. That
drive gets divided up into sections: a Common section that everyone has
access to and a section for each person, sort of a personal section for their
specific work and is titled under their name. It used to be that I could
click on the "previous folder" button to get to the screen with "Common" and
"[my name]", click on the "Common" and get access to what I needed on the
"Common" section. But since the update, when I get to that "Common"/"[my
name]" screen I have to click in the "Address" field, choose the Claims
drive, click on the "Common" and then find what I'm looking for; and when I'm
finished I click on the "previous folder", get the "Common"/"[my name]"
screen, click on "[my name"] and get back to my section/work (notice: do not
have to go through "Address" blank). If I don't go through the "Address"
field before clicking on "Common" I end up on the Desktop screen. The name
in the "Address" field changes also. When I'm first entering my section to
work it has ".../Claims/..." but when I try to get to the "Common" section
the "Address" field has "My Documents". Are there settings that need to be
changed by IT or is that just the way the Word 2002 SP3 works? (I realize
this may be an unanswerable question(s), but please at least tell me that so
I'll quit wondering. Thanks.)

Thanks for your help.

This is a Windows issue, nothing to do with Word.
