Hi Noel,

Unfortunately MS chose to remove the Picture From Scanner feature from the Office 2007 basic apps. It's still available in the
optional install MS Office Document Imaging application.

If your scanner came with its own software does it still allow you to choose 'send to Microsoft Word' as one of the choices for
scanning from that software?

Hi,

is it still the same on the B2TR? will it be staying that way in the gold
release? wonder why they would remove such usability feature as other
applications, e.g. acrobat are capable of directly importing from
scanner/camera?

Hi K.M.,

The hooks within Office 2007 for Insert=Picture=from scanner or camera have been removed. It's not available directly in Word and
it's no longer an option even in the 'Photo Album' feature of MS Office Powerpoint 2007 in B2TR.

My guess is that this is another one of those features that Vista is supposed to provide so not included in the apps that run in
Vista, otherwise it would seem that as more folks get scanners and cameras (in phones etc) MS had rather odd timing in removing that
feature from Office, or perhaps there are instability problems with that older interface and the new parts of Office, or perhaps
folks would send their pictures directly to Word and not have another (original) copy. We may never know for sure g, but you may
not need it.

You can get the dialog in Word if you create a new toolbar in a pre-2007 version of Word for a document or template and on that
toolbar use Tools=Customize=Commands=All commands and drag the From camera or scanner command to your new toolbar. When you open
that document or template in Word 2007 that command will be in the Add-Ins tab and appears to work.

In the help files for Office 2007 the recommended method is to download from your camera or scanner to your hard drive then use
Insert=Illustrations=Picture(from file) to insert the items. (MS Office Document Imaging/scanning does still support this in
2007)

You may also be able to use your camera, graphics or scanner software to 'send' a graphic to an Office 2007 app, even though that
command is not in Word. For example I can, from Irfanview or from a Lexmark/Dell scan software choose 'Send to Microsoft Word' as a
photo, the software does the scan, starts Word and insert pastes the graphic in.

it is a pitty, was really usefull. and not everybody might jump to vista,
instead contuing with xp until vista gets kind of mature (SP1) or so... be
it.

problem is also that B2TR office document scanning crashes constantly when
trying to scan something from a twain source (hp officejet 7410). hope that
will be fixed until it goes rtm.

Hi K.M.,

I'm not having any issues scanning into Word 2007 without using the built in feature, other than you have to start the other app.
Often that's a button on the scanner product itself these days I haven't had it crash using the imported command via a Word 2003
toolbar either. The issues with MS Office document scanning can often be an outdated scanner driver, or a corrupted 'preset' in MS
Office Document scanning (it's basically unchanged from Office 2003). Try creating a new preset there and see if that makes a
difference.

thanks input. getting this from the log, does not seem to be an outdated

Hi K.M.,

Hmmm. Do you Visual Studio installed by any chance? The version of msvcr80.dll isn't the one that ships with Office 2007 beta 2
and there may be an incompatability with the version you have and the one with the Office 2007 beta, 8.0.50727.42.

That version should be in your \MSOCache (hidden) folder for Office 2007 Pro.

not the entire suite, just some tool called visual studio remote debugger,
which though is not listed in the add/remove progams panel and thus cannot
be removed. i think it came with MSO 2007, which would be even stranger. then
i got also visual c++ 2005 reditributable, which could be removed if needed,
but i do not think that this is the culprit?

Hi K.M.,

Did you try replacing that dll file that came with Office 2007? Either by storing a safety copy and replacing it or renaming it then
repairing Office?

Appreciate your continious input!

Actually I am not upto messing with the dll, perhaps waiting for the rtm,
which should fix the mattern anyway.

btw, do have any idea of how I could get rid of this 'visual studio remote
debugger'?

Cheers
