Alpha sort the Table of Contents in MS Word 2003
How do I alpha sort the TOC which is built from HEADER1 data within a
procedures manual created with a downloaded MS template? The TOC is created automatically and reflects the correct page numbers. However, it is sorted by page number, and I need it to be sorted alphabetically by subject "header data" to be more useable. I only use HEADER1 formatted data; no other header types are used. Thank you, |

What you are describing is an index rather than a TOC.

Alpha sort the Table of Contents in MS Word 2003
G'Day Noreen,
You need an Index and not a TOC. That's not so straight forward, see: http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting/Createindex.htm -- Regards, Pat Garard Melbourne, Australia _______________________ "Noreen Fratus" Noreen wrote in message ... Alpha sort the Table of Contents in MS Word 2003
I discovered a work-around that makes this easy.
After creating the TOC, select all entries except the first entry. Then use Table/Sort to alphabetize all of the entries...except the first entry. Select the first entry and manually drag it to the correct location. dave green "Noreen Fratus" wrote: How do I alpha sort the TOC which is built from HEADER1 data within a procedures manual created with a downloaded MS template?
