Default word can no longer 'hold' its settings

Occasionally the Word Data key in the Registry becomes damaged and "forgets"
Options settings. If it's Options you're speaking of, see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm for instructions on
rebuilding the key.

If it's Normal.dot changes that aren't being retained, this problem (and
often the Options one as well) can be caused by a poorly written add-in. An
especial thorn in the flesh is the add-in for Adobe Acrobat 7; if you have
that program installed, see the very last part of

hi suzanne - thank you for your advices. I've tried the registry method of
the first address; I'm sorry, without effect. the second address is not
relevant for me, since I've no adobe. It is strange indeed that word cannot
retain its settings (I do not speak of normal.dot), even after a
re-installation. - once more thank you so much - dieter
