Default Form creations - attachment enclosed.

Hello there.

There has always someone here that has given me a slight helping hand and I
was hoping again if this can still happened.

Someone has come up to me with a document form and asked me for help in
redesigning it and making it "user friendlier".

This form are one of those old types that someone created in word and should
you wish to fill out the form, you have to print it out and fill in the
boxes or lines by pen in hand. That seems to work okay but the problem is
that people can type faster than hand writing and some people's hand writing
can certainly outstrip the common "doctor's prescription hand writing
cryptograph" making typing an alternative.

My solution (and this time I seem to bite more than I can chew) was to
create a document and use the features in Word to create a form that a
person opens a document (coming from a template in order to create a
separate file) and types in the specified fields without destroying the
documents. By this I will be protecting the document as a form.

One part of the form (which is the one I have attached) is a section where
the person is to write in a small paragraph of some details. Keeping in the
context from the original document, I created a single column table where I
place in the cell the question and place a text form field where you can
type in those details.

You will notice that there are a set of lines keeping with the old original
written form. Those lines were created as a single line that has a tab mark
at the end of the line. It was designed so that I could tell the user of
the document that they have a certain amount of space to type. This however
is not working to exactly what I wish to do.

You can see with the attached document where that as you type in the
details, the tabs work towards the end of the line however when you go over
the line the box seems to lengthen leaving the same space on the bottom. My
intentions was that the lines start to decrease until the end.

These are my intentions for the document format:

* The user must have an idea how much they can type in a certain space and
not go over.
* The lines are to retract as we are typing (I seem to have a solution for
this part).
* The extra lines below are to retract once the text goes to the next line.
* The box must not at all enlarge at all which can take the form out of
perspective.

Has anyone a solution for this? I am grateful for the past solutions and
thanking anyone who can do this for me.

You can e-mail at and you can take out
the "worried" or simply reply to this forum.

Kindest regards

Tom

What you are talking about is what Word calls an "online form." Check this
in help. For more about online forms, follow the links at
http://addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms or
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...nTheBlanks.htm especially Dian
Chapman's series of articles. You may also want to look at
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFl...nesInForms.htm.

Note, you would save your form as a template. Users would create new
documents based on the template using File New. For more on the different
kinds of templates, tabs on the file new dialog, and locations of templates
folders see http://addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm.

Hope this helps,
