Apologies in advance for what will be a simple question for you. I am unable
to get headers or footers to print out. I have followed directions on all of
the help menus. The text appears in the header/footer in exactly the fashion
I want. It shows up on the preview page, but when I actually print, nothing
shows up. I will say that on a couple of occasions when doing the trial and
error thing, the text in the header/footer appeared. I really would
appreciate any info from anybody. Walk me through it like I'm a twelve year
old. (I'm not)

A footer might not print because it's outside the printable area (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting...sDontPrint.htm), but the only
reasons I can think of for a header not printing are that (a) it's a wrapped
graphic, and you don't have "Drawing objects" checked on the Print tab of
Tools | Options or (b) it's Hidden text. If the header/footer are displayed
in Print Preview (not Print Layout view), then neither is the issue, and
there's something wrong with the printer driver.

Suzanne-first of all, thanks for the quick response. The 'drawing objects' is
checked on the print tab. All that goes into the header/footer is page
numbering. Any suggestions?

With the header toolbar. I've read the info concerning the insert/page number
not being the ideal way to go. I click on view, then h/f, then align the text
in the header where I need it to be, then format page with the h/f toolbar
(begin with 1), uncheck print first page, and finally insert page number. All
appears to be fine until time to print, then...nothing. I appreciate you
trying to help in this very perplexing problem.

toolbar, I begin with the first page (of several hundred) and all is well, on
that page. The remaining headers are not numbered. I tried starting with
different pages but the cursor shot back to the header on the first page.
This is a first. The problems seem to be deepening. Do I need to
uninstall/install the office and printer programs? Would rather not, but if
necessary, will.

Unless you've got section breaks, there is only one header (the one that
appears on the first page). Any page number (field) you put there should be
appearing on every page. If you like, shoot me a portion of the problem doc,
and I'll have a look.

This means it displays on the first page only.
You can copy its contents and paste where it says header on the next page,
in which case it will appear on subsequent pages (at least until a section
break).
