If you're running on Windows Vista, it could be this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;940791

This article may be of some use, although it hasn't yet been updated
for Word 2007:

See the article above "Mouse stopped working in Word 2007". It fixed it for me.

It would have been better if you had given people a link to the article:

Thanks Doug. I'm new to this board. I did not realize that referring to
another message was confusing. I should have included the article reference
which worked for me http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541 but I am confused
why you referred to a Yahoo group that did not provide the answer. It
discussed security & add-ins which are not the problem & nowhere did it refer
to the real fix at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541 which I should have
included in my numerous posts.
I am constantly amazed that anything works at all. Today's computers are
like having one auto made by any number of manufacturers and being able to
use any combination of parts from any other manufacturer and install & work.
Imagine a car with a VW body, Cadillac engine, Ford tranny, Chevy drive line,
GMC brakes, Toyota wheels, Nisan Steering wheel, etc. You get the idea.

It wasn't so much that the reference to the other message was confusing as
that the post gave absolutely no information about what it was that had
fixed the problem for you.

To try and rectify that, I did a search of the archives for a message with
the same subject and the link that I posted is what I came up with. It
turns out it was not the one to which you were refering so thanks for
posting back her with that. It would of course help to know which of the
suggestions at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541 was the one that
overcame your problem.

I wish I knew. I made 3 changes all at once. I deleted the Normal Template
(which I don't think helped since I did that by itself first), then deleted
the 2 keys in the registry for Data and Options. It has not happened again to
try one at a time. Loren
