Trouble opening any document
Hi folks,
My computer has recently developed 2 problems opening documents into MS Word 2003: 1. If I double-click a .doc file from file manager it takes literally minutes for Word to start, and then more time after that for the document to appear. (But if I open Word via the Start menu the program starts up right away.) Same issue for other MS Office applications. 2. Documents open as a gray-colored "document object" instead of as a regular document. Any hints much appreciated, JW |

I know that this article refers to Office XP - but it is also relevant to
Office 2003. http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/P...cle.asp?ID=109 The other thing to check are your add-ins: http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/P...cle.asp?ID=282 Good Luck -- Dawn Crosier Microsoft MVP "Education Lasts a Lifetime" This message was posted to a newsgroup, Please post replies and questions to the group so that others can learn as well. I do have NAV installed, but cannot disable it (it's controlled from an institutional server) and there's no file officeav.dll on my local machine. The diagnostics in the add-in help page focus on the problem where you can't start Word without an error occurring. I have no such problem - if I start Word from the Start menu it cranks up right away. The issue that I'm having is to do with double-clicking a .doc file - Word takes literally minutes to start when I do this, regardless of which document it is. Same problem for Excel. JW |

Make sure you have cleaned out all your Temp files. That can bog things
down quite a bit. -- Dawn Crosier Microsoft MVP "Education Lasts a Lifetime" This message was posted to a newsgroup, Please post replies and questions to the group so that others can learn as well.
