It would probably be simpler if you saved the types of documents you use in
this manner as templates. Then new documents created from them would always
require new names.

On reflection the following two lines added to an AutoOpen macro would
prompt you to save all documents with a new name on opening

Dialogs(wdDialogFileSaveAs).Show
ActiveWindow.Caption = ActiveDocument.FullName

If you are using Word 2002 or 2003, you can use your document as a template.
In the New Document task pane, choose "From existing document..." and select
your document. This will create a new document based on your old one, but it
will need to be named the first time you save it.

I re-use documents but never quite know which ones they will be.
Making a template every time would be 'overkill'. Not a bad
suggestion for other uses though.

I could do that, but Mr Mayor already gave me a solution that better
