Opening a doc via HTTP, only save can be done
Server: Windows 2003, SP1. Client: Windows XP SP2, Office 2003 SP1
There is a Word document, saved with file type HTML on the server. This document is opened for reading via HTTP - a click is done on a URL such as www.example.com/test.doc. However, the document is not opened in Word. Instead a dialog is shown, giving the possibility to save the document. The message in the dialog is (translated from German) "The downloaded file cannot be opened by the standard program. It is either damaged or the file type is wrong. Because of security reasons, the donwload should be canceled." If the document is downloaded to the client, and then opened with Word locally, anything will be fine. No error message is given. Can anybody explain? Why can the document not be opened directly via HTTP? -- Michael G. Schneider MTLookup http://www.mtlookup.com Movable Type Weblog http://www.movable-type-weblog.com/ |
