Word 2000 and Word 2002

Sometimes an underscore mark appears at the end of a given document or
sometimes all documents. With Show/Hide turned on, the screen appears as an
underlined paragraph mark.

How can this underscore mark be turned off? Tia!

The "underscore" should be visible only in Normal view or Outline
view, and it represents the end of the document. In those views it
can't be turned off. It won't be visible in Print Layout view or in
Web Page view.
