Default Highlighting problem

using Word 97..

when I left click and hold then more cursor down to the bottom of page to
continue highlighting text, the page(s) scroll very fast, can not stop
scroll, sometimes goes all the way to the end of the document..

have looked all over the place (options etc), can't find anything to change
to stop this..

HELP PLEASE TIA

Default Highlighting problem

Click at one end of the desired selection, use the scroll bar slider to
bring the other end in view, and Shift+click there.
