Thumbs up Answer: How do I circle a word to highlight it

To circle a word or number in Microsoft Word, you can use the "Shapes" feature. Here are the steps:
  1. Open your Word document and select the word or number you want to circle.
  2. Click on the "Insert" tab in the top menu.
  3. Click on the "Shapes" button in the "Illustrations" section.
  4. Select the circle shape from the list of shapes.
  5. Click and drag your mouse to draw a circle around the word or number you want to highlight.
  6. You can customize the circle by changing its color, size, and thickness. To do this, click on the circle to select it, then click on the "Shape Format" tab in the top menu. From there, you can choose different colors and styles for your circle.

That's it! Your word or number should now be circled and highlighted in your chart.

With AutoShapes. You'll have to move it behind the text.

I need more information. When I go to autoshapes I can't just get a simple
circle - I get all this complicated stuff. I just want to circle a word.

You found AutoShapes I assume. From there you are given several different
options/types of shapes. Play with different options. There are several that
will suit your needs.

I found the autoshapes and I click on the oval trying to manipulate it but
nothing happens - maybe I have the wrong view. If you know step by step how
to do this, please respond that way. This is very maddening. I can see it
but I can't make it happen.

You found the oval. Click on it, the cursor becomes a plus sign, click on
your document where you want the shape, hold the mouse button down to drag
it. It will be on top of your text. Right-click on it, select Format
AutoShape, select the Layout tab, select Behind Text, OK.

I'd also like to respectfully suggest that you become familiar with using
the Help files. That will help to keep your frustration level down.

I figured it out. Click on the autoshape
it becomes a cross - drag the cross until
it is the shape you want and then right click
a menu appears with "insert text". And that's it.

That's pretty much what I was saying except I assumed you had all of your
text down first and needed to circle something to draw attention to it.
