Default If I dont have Word, can I open sent documents from othe users ?

My friend often sends me documents to print for her and do mailings. I do
not have Word installed. Can I still open and print her document? A trial
version of microsoft word is on my computer and I have not oredered it. yet.
I am a begginer on my new computer. Why couldn't I just install my old
version of WORDPERFECT? I intend to use my new computer for many things.
Would wordperfect hurt me from expanding into a more efficient coumputer user?

Hi Minnie,

WORDPERFECT? WORDPERFECT? Oh, sorry... ;-) No, WordPerfect will not hurt
you or damage your documents, it's a perfectly good program. Depending on
how old your old version is, though, it may not be able to open Word
documents from your friend.

If you can't open the documents that way, you can download a free Word
viewer program he
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=EN
It will let you read and print the documents, you just won't be able to
change them. I'm not sure what you mean about "do mailings", but it might
not do that either.

As an alternative you could use OpenOffice (downloadable for free from
http://www.openoffice.org). It is compatible with MS Office (meaning
you can open and save Word documents), easy to use even for beginners
like you, and best of all: it is free (as in free speech).
