Default how do I import excell documents into work

I have a file named "receipes" When asked where I wanted to open this file I
accidently pressed on excell instead of word and now I cannot open it at

How do I import that file back into word?

What happens if you go into Word, use File/OPen and select this file? And which
version of Word is this?
