Default new, odd behaviour

i'm sure i haven't changed any settings - but prior to today i could select
a word and type and it would replace the selected word with what i'm
typing - now it inserts it in front of the selected word - using Word 2003.

Cheers

In Word, click on Tools | Options | Edit | check the "Typing replaces
selection" box | OK.
