Default Multiple Alignments on the Same Line

I am trying to set up a cost sheet with multiple items. It has traditionally
been done in a page layout program, but want to set it up in word. Here is an
example of what I'm doing:

Item 1................................................. .........$25.37
Item 2................................................. .......$345.08

The problem is that I want to have the items on the left, left-aligned and
then exactly align the decimal points on the right , while connecting the two
elements with a dot-leader.

Can this be done in Word?
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks

Yes, it can be done. You want a decimal tab with a dot leader, can be set
through the Format | Tabs dialog. This article will explain more if the
dialog confuses you. The main gotcha is making sure the settings apply to
the right text, you might want to select it first.
