Default why does word xp hang at startup?

I recently upgraded from Office 2000 to Office XP Professional edition, and
since I did so Word is very slow to start up. The program itself loads
quickly, but then it hangs for close to 20 seconds before a blank document
actually appears. It also hangs when I try to open an existing file.

I'd appreciate any suggestions on how I might go about correcting this
problem. Thanks!

Hi, ndg. If you're using Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, try disabling the Office
Plugin that comes with it. See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820
"How to use Office programs with the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in" for
more info.
