Default how to adjust the placement of numbers in a column

I cannot remember how I did this before. ???
I am creating a table in Word, for the first column I need numbers
ascending. I used the bullet numbers. Now, how do I move the numbers so that
they show up more towards the left of the column? So I will not have to have
a large column just so I can see the numbers. Thank you!
