What could possibly have caused my Ctrl+U not to work? Also, when I use the
toolbar underline symbol, that doesn't work either. The only thing that does
work is to go to Format Font dialog box and choose the underlining from there.

I even tried re-assigning the shortcut and that didn't work either. I'm
baffled.

A conflict with some third party software or a minor corruption in
normal.dot
Does it recover if you start Woird in its safe mode (hold the CTRL key
whilst starting Word). If so - see

I'm so sorry to be late in thanking you for your reply, Graham. Just got
back from a funeral in the Netherlands and I'm a victim of jet lag (I'm in
Florida) to such extent that I'll wait until tomorrow to give your
suggestions a try after some sleep. Your help is always valuable; I'll let
you know what happens.

Thanks again, Graham.
