The markup view is enabled by default so that you shouldn't send a document
to someone else, not realizing that Track Changes is turned on (and thus
letting the recipient view your edits). To prevent Word from displaying
markup, you can clear the "Make hidden markup visible when opening or
saving" option, but note that this is not recommended (for privacy reasons).

Instead, to permanently get rid of the markup, accept all changes, and then
turn off the Track Changes feature.
