The method for getting the screen shot depends on your OS. In Windows 2000, when you touch the "Print Screen" key the screenshot goes to the clipboard. Then just open the word doc, and paste it in... In all Windows versions, press PrintScreen on your keyboard to copy the
entire screen to the Clipboard, then paste as needed. Alt+PrintScreen pastes the active window or dialog. It's best not to paste directly into Word. Instead, paste into an image-editing program (even MS Paint), crop as needed, then save in a standard graphics format and use Insert | Picture | From File to insert the picture in your document. This way you can reuse the screen shot as needed and also still have it on file if it becomes corrupted in the document. For more sophisticated screen shots (individual menus or toolbars, scrolling dropdown lists or spin boxes, etc.), use a dedicated screen capture program such as SnagIt from TechSmith (www.techsmith.com), which provides the ability to capture directly from Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet Explorer and to save in a variety of formats, including capturing printer output. -- Suzanne S. I believe for any Wndows OS going back to WIndows 95:
1) Pressing (at the same time) Shift + Print SCreen will take a copy of the entire screen and put it into the clipboard 2) Pressing Alt+Print Screen will take a copy if just the active window and put it into the clipboard I typically paste it into Paint to edit the image (add a note or put a circle around a screen element) then copy and paste that into Word You also may want to check out the product named SnagIt! |

Shift is not required.
