Default Page Breaks in an Index field

Hi, I have an index which lists entries at 2 levels (i.e. may xe entries have
subentries ":") The index is in 3 columns and spreads over 2-3 pages.

So, the problem, which seems simple but has been driving me mad for far too
long, How do I make all the subentries stay underneath the main entry,
without a page/column break getting in the way?

I have read some stuff on setting up a TOC with a fake 3rd level, but how
can it be done with an Index?

Many thanks

Format the Index 1 paragraph style as "Keep with next."

That won't keep *all* the subentries with the main entry, but it will at
least help.
